A place where every mind has the opportunity to travel to the farthest reaches of our planet. To spend a few moments immersed in worlds you’ve never seen before, to learn from people and cultures vastly different from ours.

We labour tirelessly, poring over each box to add a little piece of magic in each one. If you are not a voracious reader, we hope to show you a world of books that might change that. Tall Tales boxes are eclectic and committed to diversity, we choose books that are both beautiful and that grow with you no matter your age.

How It Works

Select your age appropriate box, then choose to receive your books monthly or if you prefer receiving books at a slower pace then opt for our quarterly plan and receive your books once every three months.

Boxes ship between 25th and 30th of each month. Sign up by the last day of the month to receive your first box the next month e.g. sign up by the 31st of January to receive your first box in February.

You will receive 2 carefully curated books and occasional activities in each box. Our activities range from sticker books to craft kits.

LUCKY DIP BOXES: We select books that are unique and that might not be easy to find in South African bookstores. Getting these books into the country can take a long time, so if you’re a new subscriber on the monthly or annual plan your first two boxes will be “lucky dip” boxes. This means your first two boxes will contain books that we have readily available in stock. They will still be carefully curated and age-appropriate, but they might not contain the featured book for those months.

AGES 0 – 3

Board Book Club

Give your young book worm a solid foundation for vocabulary building, shape, colour and number recognition.

Includes 2 board books and an activity / sticker book or puzzle.

AGES 4 – 7

Picture Book Club

We carefully curate this box to include books that are truly works of art in both words and illustrations.

Includes 2 hardcover picture books and occasional activity books / activities

AGES 8 – 9

Chapter Book Club

For the kids who are transitioning to reading independently.

Includes 2 paperbacks and occasional activities such as brain teasers.

AGES 9 – 12

Middle Grade Book Club

Concretize your child’s love of reading with diverse and adventurous tales from a wide range of authors.

Includes 2 middle grade books and occasional gifts such as bookmarks.
